J. W. Bailey Construction Co of Santa Barbara submitted the low bid for alterations to the Santa Barbara Courthouse to add a sixth permanent Superior Court. The bid was 13,776 dollars versus a 20,000 dollar engineering estimate.

Wapner to Attend 8th Annual Social Action Conference

Angela Wapner of Temple Beth El Religious School in Lompoc will take part in the 8th Annual Social Action Conference this Sunday February 28 at Bovard Hall USC. Per Capita Library Funding Hike Sought for 1971 72

The County Library Advisory Committee voted to urge the Board of Supervisors to raise the per capita library cost from 2.30 to 2.75 for the 1971 72 fiscal year starting July 1. The group also discussed directing Zone 1 capital funds to serve Carpinteria and Montecito and planned another session April 29 to prepare the county budget presentation.

Screening for Police Post Begins Recruit Training Academy

High school candidates aged 14 to 19 are screened by Lompoc Police Department for the new Law Enforcement Explorer Post 700. Orientation runs Saturdays over eight weeks with non paid instructors including Sgts. DeLong and Havens and Officers Trimble and Coday.

Methodone funding sought for Santa Barbara County program

Dr. Norbert McNamara seeks state aid to expand Santa Barbara County methadone treatment from the Goleta Addiction Research Center to a North County facility. Costs for South Coast reach $31,780 this year. North County projected $9,154 this quarter and $27,432 for 1971-72. Approval hinges on Governor's Research Advisory Panel review of staff, facilities and funding.

Sierra Club backs canceling leases in channel oil plan

The Sierra Club opposes the Cranston-Tunney S 373 38 lease sanctuary provisions and backs bills from Muskie Cranston Teague to cancel all 70 leases in the channel. James Billig of the Los PadresChapter says the group seeks dedication of the channel to a national offshore petroleum reserve system for future needs.
