Puccini Opera LA BOHEME Set for Allan Hancock College
A special premiere of Puccini’s LA BOHEME will be staged at 8 p.m. tomorrow by the Allan Hancock College Performing Arts Center to benefit the A Cappella Choir’s Romanian tour. The English production features Phillip McLendon as Rudolfo and Carol Brolaski as Mimi with a youthful cast and emphasis on human warmth over operatic form.

Carpinteria Society seeks protection from beach expansion
The Carpinteria Conservation Society asked the County Park Commission to oppose county sponsorship of measures that could grow Carpinteria State Beach Park. They cited plans to use bond funds for park expansion and argued funds would be better spent on open spaces and wildlife preserves in the South Coast. Goleta plans new ventures for water
Goleta County Water District unveiled a plan to raise groundwater by about 500 acre feet per year to serve up to 2,500 people. Proposals include check dams on creeks in San Jose Maria Ygnacia San Antonio and Atascadero Parks lands to spread wetted areas and increase basin recharge by about 40 percent. The district will stage a demonstration project and draft a joint powers pact for review.
