Ranchers Seek Federal Aid as Flood Losses Climb
Lompoc Valley and Santa Ynez River area farmers face delays in state and federal assistance after flood damage estimates rise from 2.5 million to 4 million dollars. County supervisors consider loaning surplus earth-moving equipment, raising aid caps, and easing FHA loan rules to restore farmland and protect tax revenues. Farm Bureau president John Beattie says help is stalled by aid aimed at public agencies, urging rapid action to redeploy land and crops this year.
