Stolen coin valued at 36 reported in Vandenberg burglary

The Sheriff's Office says a coin collection worth 36 dollars was stolen from Hedwig K. Petker’s home at 4060 Clubhouse Rd in Vandenberg Village. Also in Lompoc Hospital today MAX Carruthers 55 is listed in satisfactory condition with contusions after being struck by Ruth Alberta Mills 61 in an early morning accident at H Street and Chestnut Avenue. Mills was driving southbound and turning into Chestnut Avenue when she hit Carruthers who was in the crosswalk.

Community senior events in Lompoc offer activities

Lompoc groups host senior activities at the city auditorium and Hospitality House with weekly cards, games, and potlucks for those over 50. Guadalupe Police Chief Bound Over On Bribery Charges

Police Chief Stanley R. Camp 59 of Guadalupe was bound over to Santa Maria Superior Court to answer five bribery counts related to a bookmaking protection scheme. The charges total about 600 dollars. Camp pled innocent and expects to be cleared.

Waller Park Zoo to be phased out in Santa Maria area

County Park Commission votes to rapidly phase out the small Waller Park Zoo at Waller County Park after a petition by 3120 residents. Park Director Michael Pahos says the plan replaces large animals with a children's farm type zoo and seeks help from nearby zoos to rehome Smoky the bear and other animals. Curtis Tunnell and Joe Gray support the master plan as the petitions cited concerns over confinement and cleanliness.

$100,000 Art Theft Solved in World Wide Probe

A Montecito man Paul Linvel Barclay age 50 was arrested after offering to sell paintings valued at 98500 to an undercover agent. He faces receiving stolen property charges as investigators recover five of seven works believed taken from J J Mitchell's Montecito home during a November burglary. The three month probe spanned local federal and international agencies with more arrests expected.

Capuchin cemetery plan may be moved to new site

Environmental hearings continue as Capuchin Franciscans offer to relocate a proposed Santa Ynez cemetery.
