U S Air Force and Navy aircraft resumed intensive bombing inside South Vietnam after a 24 hour Tet truce. Reports indicate a record 251 missions in 12 hours before the truce and possible Guam based B52s joining the campaign. The tally includes 22 South Vietnamese soldiers killed, 33 wounded, and 14 kidnapped with no American fatalities.
County supervisors plan a Tuesday vote after interviewing top candidates to replace Walter S. Cummings who retires at month’s end. The board split on openness with the Farm Bureau letter to exclude an environmentalist and the exchange with Robert Hunt.

Eight city council hopefuls gathered in the Chemical Workers Union Hall for a Valentine’s Day candidate night sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Incumbents Art Scott and Mrs. Charlotte Benton joined Steven L. Cox Miss Ann S. Dewberry William W. Johnson Gaspare C. Oneto Donald E. Schuyler and Emil Scolari faced questions on wages taxes and recycling with each outlining their platforms and priorities for city growth and youth engagement.
