The Lompoc Economic Development Association voted to fund Tom Parks travel and tuition for a week at the University of Oklahoma Industrial Development Institute. Since January 9 he made two industry contacts in Los Angeles and received three preliminary inquiries from a business journal ad. The board also approved associate member voting rights but not office eligibility and agreed to a city council joint dinner on February 27. The next LEDA meeting is March 13.

Indicted murder suspect Gourgen Yanikian in Santa Barbara
Gourgen Yanikian, 77, a former Santa Barbara land developer and engineer, is indicted by the County Grand Jury on two counts of homicide. He is jailed without bail for allegedly killing Turkish diplomats Mehmet Baydar and Bahadir Demir at lunch January 31 at the Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel. The suspect invited the diplomats to present a stolen painting. none has been found.

Reagan pledges quick signing of POW tax relief bill
Gov. Ronald Reagan said he would enthusiastically sign AB115 to grant California prisoners of war tax relief as they return home. The measure exempts POW earnings from state tax and allows extended payment on accrued interest. Survivors of MIAs and servicemen who died in Vietnam would have all state taxes forgiven.
