Pasadena Desegregation Plan Splits District Into Four Corridors
Pasadena moves to desegregate by September under a federal court order by dividing the district into four east-to-west corridors. The plan aims to minimize bus rides, with average travel about three miles and maximum around eight miles. About 30,500 students are affected, with 58 percent white, 30 percent black, and 12 percent Mexican American and Oriental. Attorneys general from Mississippi Louisiana and Alabama seek to intervene as friends of the court to push for unified constitutional standards on desegregation.
