Reinecke embroiled in spat over Veneman remarks
Sacramento Lt. Gov. Ed Reinecke drew fire for criticizing Assemblyman John G. Veneman and for saying he gave incorrect census answers. Reinecke backtracked, calling the remark a slight misstatement while noting GOP balance in the Assembly could shift with Veneman’s resignation. Governor Reagan avoided sharp words, saying Veneman’s departure poses a problem but a Californian in HEW could help.
