County supervisors advance agricultural preserve program hearings
The Board of Supervisors backed planning commission recommendations to set public hearings on rezoning lands proposed for preserves or already preserved. Nine of 31 cases lie in the Lompoc Valley. 18 in other north county areas. Hearings set for Feb 17 will cover four preserves plus 17 other rezoning cases and 10 more preserve applications. Officials predict the program could reach about 300000 acres this year, up from over 200000 acres.

The County Flood Control Department supervises disposal of thousands of tons of flood debris from South Coast creeks and north county rivers.
