Lompocans Aid 19th Stop Arthritis Telethon

Unified School District volunteers in Lompoc will man phones to solicit pledges for the 19th annual Stop Arthritis Telethon. The 18 hour broadcast runs midnight Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday on KTLA Channel 5 with stars including Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller aiding arthritis research. Local calls are routed to 733-3533 and headquarters are at Vandenberg Van and Storage.

Light registration for special congressional primary in Santa Barbara

At the Santa Barbara County Election Bureau registration for the March 5 special primary remains low. Offices in Santa Barbara and branches in Santa Maria Lompoc Santa Ynez and Carpinteria close at 5 pm Friday with signatures allowed until 5 pm Sunday for next week. Citizens for Integrity files peti tions over county salary raise

The Citizens for Integrity in County Government submitted referendum petitions with thousands of names to Santa Barbara County to block the 69 percent salary increase set to take effect Monday. County election chief Bob Kirkpatrick reported a six-woman team processing signatures and only 2,400 cleared by Thursday, with disqualifications running 15 to 20 percent, as volunteers claim well over 20,000 names entered.

Bridge for Sale in Shasta County After Flood Damage
