LFT Files Complaint Over Pregnancy and Paternity Leave Policy

Lompoc Federation of Teachers sues Lompoc Unified School District at the EEOC alleging sex discrimination in maternity and paternity leave. The district reportedly requires six months of pregnancy leave with no reimbursement or resignation option and may allow return only on physician guidance. Lompoc seeks restudy of dam project at Santa Ynez meeting

Catterlin Seeks State Senate Seat in Republican Primary

Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors chair Charles F. Catterlin announced his bid for the state Senate. He will face Assemblyman W. Don MacGillivray for the GOP nomination while Democrat Russell G. Herron of Camarillo has also filed. Emergency crisis bill predicted in trucker talks

Governor Milton J Shapp said Congress would draft emergency legislation to resolve the independent trucker stoppage. The plan would let the ICC allow higher rates via a pass through diesel cost increases, amid fuel price pressures and stalled negotiations with federal leaders. Detroit automakers reported plant closures and mass idling, with about 75,000 workers out, and 100,000 others uncertain about returns.
