Federal Seizure of 8000 Pounds Kingfish Over DDT
Federal authorities seized about 8 000 pounds of salt water kingfish at Los Angeles harbor due to DDT levels near 19 ppm well above the FDA 5 ppm limit. The fish, caught within 20 miles of the Southern California coast, were slated for human sale. An attorney for State Fish Co. Inc. said the action would not be contested given the fish value. A prior seizure attempt on queenfish failed as tests showed 14 ppm but the fish had been diverted to pet food.
