California budget plan signals no tax increase next year

Gov Reagan will unveil a $7 billion budget for 1972-73 with no tax hike, says state finance director Verne Orr. He forecasts a $400 million revenue rise, 5,000 aerospace job losses mainly in Southern California, and a focus on school funding and coastal land use legislation in 1972.

Nation's weather and a Compton murder conviction overturned

The United States weather map reports Arctic cold in the Midwest and snow across the Pacific Northwest with warm Gulf tones elsewhere. In San Francisco the state Supreme Court overturned two murder convictions of a 16 year old Compton boy because his confession was obtained without Miranda rights, though retry remains possible.

Indian officials described Tuesday’s clash on the western front as isolated and not an imminent return to war. Keefe Brasselle Pleads Guilty in Barroom Shooting

Van Nuys based actor Keefe Brasselle pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon for shooting Richard B. Crawford, 29, in the chest during a Wrightwood Inn bar fight in Study City on July 10. Sentencing set for Jan. 24. offense carries up to 10 years and a $5,000 fine.

Ducks Found With Golden Gizzards In Tulelake Find

In Tulelake California two red head ducks shot during hunting season were found to have flecks of gold in their gizzards. Mrs John Thompson of McCloud reported the gold pieces. The largest fragment measured a quarter inch and was valued at about 50 cents as hunters pursue the birds migration route.

New adults to be bumped off welfare in California

A top Reagan administration official says the 18-year-old age of majority law will remove about 29 000 young adults from welfare and save about 30 million dollars in state local and federal funds. The law shifts eligibility for AFDC as 18-year-olds are no longer dependents.
