Theft, burglaries, and crashes feature in Lompoc report

Police say Kenneth Williams reported two weapons stolen from his home at 228 N Sixth St. An 18 year old, Rickie Allan Bernard, faces burglary charges and a Jan 7 court date for a Nov 25 billiard parlor burglary. Multiple car crashes send several people to hospital. Marriage licenses issued in Lompoc include eight couples from Lompoc, Vandenberg AFB, and nearby areas.

Planners halt move against auto wrecker

The Planning Commission dropped proceedings to revoke the license of an auto dismantling yard at 333 N Second St after noting Roy Valesquez completed required improvements. The panel also found Hickory Avenue abandonment was not in conflict with the General Plan paving way for vacation by the City Council.

No Draft Call Possible Early in 1972 Says Laird

Defense Secretary Melvin R. Laird said during a news conference there may be no conscription in January 1972 and possibly none in February and March. He cited troop withdrawals, army force reductions by congress, and higher pay to boost volunteer enlistment.

Zoning conflicts loom as county faces new state rules

Santa Barbara County supervisors discussed possible trouble from pyramiding zoning districts under new state requirements. A Goleta Valley resident urged a white paper on conflicts with the General Plan, with hearings planned around 1973 goals. The plan calls for area by area study and possibly triple hearing sessions for amendments and text changes.

Obituaries: Alice Graybeal and Marie Powers

Funeral services are pending for 79 year old Alice Graybeal who died Monday at Lompoc Community Hospital. Marie Powers died in Bagley Minnesota after moving from Seattle to Lompoc in 1956 and later living in Santa Barbara. She is survived by her sister and four brothers. Cremation followed by interment in Lewiston Idaho.
