CIF honors two Southern California football stars

Rick Brown of Temple City High and Larry Stephens of Imperial High named CIF Players of the Year in 2-A and 1-A divisions. Brown rushed for 163 yards in the 21-3 title win over Riverside, while Stephens had 102 rushing yards in the 120-0 title victory over Paso Robles. Overall rosters list multiple players, teams, and game results across the region.

Cougars face Nets without Cunningham top ABA East race

The Carolina Cougars, now leading the ABA East without Billy Cunningham who underwent kidney surgery, beat the New York Nets 105-95 as Ted McClain posted 19 points and an ABA record 12 steals. Supersub Ed Manning added 18 off the bench as Cunningham is set to miss March. Kentucky routed Indiana 106-78 and other ABA results followed. Missouri Upsets Oklahoma In Big Eight Tourney Opener

Missouri, led by Al Eberhard and Steve Dangos, defeated Oklahoma 73 70 in Kansas City to end the Sooners season early. Eberhard scored 21 and Dangos 24 as Missouri surged ahead late after a tight 65 64 edge.
