Thousands line up to honor Truman in Independence
The body of Harry S Truman lay in state in a sealed casket at the Truman Library after a solemn procession from Carson Funeral Home. Thousands lined the 1.5 mile route past the Truman mansion as 3000 troops stood at attention and President Nixon and wife Pat laid a wreath before returning to Washington. The funeral was shortened to three days to protect Mrs. Truman 87. A 21 gun salute and a Flyover were tentatively planned for Thursday.

Montecito condo plan blocked in 2-2 board vote
The Monterey County Board of Supervisors deadlocked 2-2 on rejecting without prejudice a final development plan for a 117 unit Hammond Estate condominium project on the Montecito oceanfront. Spokesmen for Topodynamics Inc said redesign without a seawall is not feasible as some units would be within 10 feet of the wall. The board continued the hearing to next Tuesday to allow absent supervisor Catterlin to vote.

Old radio days revived by Lompoc collector
Lompoc resident Leonard Casson has spent 30 years collecting antique radios from 1919 to 1933, restoring about 20 sets and 18 speakers. His display includes crystal sets, early tube and plug-in radios from RCA, Zenith and Crosley, among others, with prices cited for some items.

County OKs Beer Sales in Valley Parks Under State Permit
The Board of Supervisors approved a rule change allowing beer sales in county and Lompoc area parks with clearance from the State Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. One day permits will be printed by the county. County officials noted deed restrictions in Lompoc may no longer be enforceable and that sales should follow state and county controls.
