Crew abandons ship in stormy Pacific search underway

A United States plane and the Greek freighter Khian Star aided in a search for 25 missing crew members from the ammunition ship Badger State after its cargo of bombs and rockets broke loose in 40 knot winds and 20 foot seas off Hawaii. Fourteen sailors were rescued. the ship, carrying munitions to Da Nang, Vietnam, burned and drifted 1,500 miles northwest of Hawaii as an explosion tore a hole in the stern.

Three Air Force linked youths hurt in Wye crash

Three people from Vandenberg related areas were injured in a two car collision at the Wye intersection north of Lompoc just before midnight. Clifton Norman Twine 18 Jennifer Rachel Smith 20 and Rennine Renard 17 were treated at the base hospital with facial cuts possible broken arm and other injuries. Both vehicles suffered major damage.

MIT professors urge halt to anti-ballistic missiles

MIT provost Jerome Weisner and three colleagues urged immediate suspension of all ABM and MIR programs without waiting for Soviet action. Commandos raid Ras Gharib in Gulf of Suez

Israeli commandos backed by jet fighters attacked Egyptian military posts in Ras Gharib on the Gulf of Suez. The raid reportedly killed several Egyptian soldiers and captured four, with one Israeli wounded but all forces and aircraft returning safely. It marks the third such raid in ten days.
