Christmas road toll hopeful yet tragic in accidents

National Safety Council warned 800 to 902 might die during the holiday period. By 10 a.m. Pacific time UPI counted at least 239 traffic deaths since Wednesday 6 p.m. with 297 total fatalities across all causes. Texas led with 21, Georgia 15, California 19, Pennsylvania 13. One fiery two car crash near White River killed seven on Christmas Eve.

Johnson pins Humphrey defeat on Salt Lake speech

Israeli Air Strikes Continue Across Suez Canal Area

Israeli warplanes pounded Egyptian artillery and antiaircraft batteries in the Suez City region for hours in a renewed canal raid. Cross-border clashes included Jordanian forces exchanging fire with Israeli troops along the Jordan River near the Dead Sea and in southern Lebanon. U S command resumes B52 strikes after Christmas truce
