Three Vehicle Crash Investigated by CHP Near Vandenberg Village

California Highway Patrol officers investigated a three car accident on Constellation Road north of Aldebran Avenue in Vandenberg Village. Dennis Wayne Ray, 23, of 219 N C St, reportedly lost control and struck a parked car owned by Warren L McNeely of Tacoma Washington, which then hit another parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Planners Waive Day Care Fee Amid Growth Concerns

The County Planning Commission voted to waive the 25 dollar day care permit fee and public hearings for residential facilities. Over 100 operators were reportedly ready to go underground to avoid regulations, though all are licensed and must obtain county clearances. The change, likely to take effect next Jan 6, applies to Ordinance 661 in non Montecito areas, permitting up to six children on site without fee or hearing.

Farewell Bid Marks End of Opposition to County Preserves

The lone opponent, Pauline Hassander of Santa Barbara, leaving the County Planning Commission after Jan 4, cast the final vote against six new agricultural preserves totaling 21 605 acres as the panel approved them 6 1 with Robert Lilley abstaining. Hassander warned taxes will rise for landowners. chairman Richard Clare blamed assessor actions for tax increases and possible expansion of preserves. The commission also approved an 19 840 acre Tepusquet preserve for Newhall Land and Farming Co the largest yet. Preserves gain final county supervisor approval before official establishment.

Christmas Eve and Day church services across local congregations

Multiple denominations announce Christmas services. First United Methodist Church offers 7 and 11 p.m. services with child care at the first. St Marys Episcopal holds three services on Christmas Eve and Day. Calvary Baptist runs a 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. musical vesper. Mission Hills Baptist hosts 10 to 11 a.m. Christmas morning. First Presbyterian provides two services tonight. Catholic churches La Purisima Queen of Angels schedule masses from 5:30 p.m. to midnight on Christmas Eve and hourly 8 a.m. to noon on Christmas Day. Queen of Angels adds a 6 p.m. vigil and midnight high mass.

Free Christmas trees offered by 2030 Club in Lompoc

The Daily Record reports free Christmas trees for low income families from the 2030 Club tree lot on North H Street. Alice Lopez of the Community Development Center announced the effort today. The story also notes a pinball machine theft at Kailani Village, and four men waiving preliminary hearings in Lompoc Justice Court for rape charges with a Jan. 8 Santa Maria Superior Court date. Harry J. Crompe nominated as Fourth Supervisorial District representative by Francis H. Beattie. Crompe lives at 13 Oxford Dr. Lompoc. nomination goes to the Board of Supervisors Monday.

Lows near 48. mountains clear with snow level at 5,000 feet. Some patchy fog and morning low clouds possible. light showers and wind may affect northern desert areas Sunday and Monday.

Lilley Rejects Nomination for State Planning Post

County Planning Commissioner Robert C. Lilley of Lompoc told the group he would not accept the nomination as second vice president of the State Planning Commissioners Association. He had declined the honor at Fresno earlier and questioned Santa Barbara County hosting duties for the 1973 convention. He noted uncertainty about remaining on the planning body after 1971 or 1973 appointments due January 4.
