Ruben Torres a 17 year old former Lompoc resident and suspect in the October 14 attack on Paul Yenney 17 and Linda Fiene 18 was ordered to stand trial as an adult in Ventura Superior Court Judge Robert Shaw denied a rehearing of juvenile proceedings and Torres pleaded innocent Public defender Roland Short argued for reconsideration while two other youths implicated in the case were dismissed for lack of evidence.
A partial, garbled notice appears from Lomper California announcing a Post Office adjudication under Congress act. The Lompoc Record, published by Lompoc Herald Publications, lists staff including Mrs James McCollum as publisher, Merry Crompe as editor, and various department heads and sales staff.
Lompoc Police detectives investigate the grand theft of a $1000 roll of green shag carpet from a group of apartments. Dennis Daniel Gregg of 605-B West Ocean was redecorating. Police have two possible suspects in the case.

Private services were held for Sylvester O. Whitacre 83 at Lompoc Funeral Home with private burial to follow. Born December 15 1894 in Jerry City Ohio he died Sunday at Lompoc District Hospital A World War I US Army veteran and retired automotive mechanic he lived in Lompoc eight years. Survivors include wife Lillian M of Lompoc three sons Jack Lawrence and Paul three daughters two brothers two sisters 24 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
Landowners in North County request exclusion from the proposed Los Padres County. The County Formation Review Commission heard letters from Elmer C. Rhoden near Figueroa Mountain and Gertrude D. Reyes planning to seek exclusion for large Cuyama area parcels. A public hearing set for Jan. 3 will address all requests.
Strong gusts over 50 mph battered northern Santa Barbara County causing toppled trees downed power lines and damaged a hay storage barn in Lompoc where a 120 foot structure valued over 10000 collapsed after its roof blew away. No injuries reported though burglar alarms triggered across commercial sites.
German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel will be honored with a special museum in Mersa Matruh, Egypt. His son, Manfred Rommel, donated memorabilia to the display as the Desert Fox’s memory is celebrated.
