Six sugar refineries indicted in price fixing scheme
A UPI report says six sugar refining firms faced criminal indictments for fixing prices pre 1973 in California Arizona and Midwest markets. Indictments named California & Hawaiian Sugar Co Holly Sugar Corp and Consolidated Foods Corp with Amalgamated Sugar American Crystal Sugar and Great Western Sugar in separate charges. Civil actions by the Justice Department sought injunctions against alleged illegal practices including the National Sugar Beet Growers Federation.
