Paychecks Shrink as CPI Surges in November
The CPI rose 0.9 percent in November, lifting the index to 154.3 and reducing the average non farm weekly paycheck to 157.47 dollars while purchasing power fell to 102.05 dollars in 1967 terms. Food prices climbed 1.1 percent with sugar and related items driving much of the rise. Real weekly earnings fell 5.6 percent year over year as hours and gains did not fully offset higher costs.
