County's Nudity Law Upheld By Appellate Court

The Santa Barbara County anti nudity ordinance, adopted a year ago, was upheld by the Appellate Department led by Judge John A. Westwick. Gisela Ellis and Ernest Sturm were found guilty for appearing nude on the Summerland bench. The court ruled state preemption was limited to lewd exposure, not nudity alone, and the decision may apply to a second test case in Santa Barbara-Goleta Municipal Court.
