Man Held For Rock Attack In L A Freeway Death
James Horton Jr. 35 Keithville La was held on suspicion of murder in the death of Charlotte Sprague 65 killed when a 30 to 35 pound rock struck her head as she drove under a freeway overpass in Los Angeles. Her husband 66 William Sprague survived. It was the third freeway death in two months. Horton was arrested near the overpass in an area described by police as a hob os hangout. A second car was struck later but no injuries. Authorities cite rising rock dropping incidents and limited remedy beyond loitering regulations.

Reagan opposes double tax payment in first year plan
Gov. Ronald Reagan pledges to oppose income tax withholding that would force Californians to pay two years taxes in year one. He also backs a pilot test of Nixon’s welfare reform and says forgiveness should be allowed to avoid a double payment. The state seeks at least 500 million in new revenue for next year.
