North County faces tighter air rules approved by board

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved tougher air pollution standards for stationary sources in the South Central Coast Air Basin including North County and San Luis Obispo County. Emissions above 25 tons yearly trigger controls, replacing the previous 100 ton threshold. The panel also discussed forming a unified district with neighboring counties and named an informal study group to explore options.

Annexation vote set for Goleta Valley to Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors approved sending the annexation question to voters on March 4 to join Goleta Valley with the city of Santa Barbara under a two tier system. Most members supported. James M. Slater opposed. Isla Vista and Hope Ranch residents favored incorporation or opposed annexation in parts. Support from LAFCO officials and local groups noted. Bullock said Isla Vista could see an about eight cent tax rate cut and potential grants under two tier government.

Board backs flood work in Los Alamos and murals room ruling

The Board of Supervisors approved the Los Alamos Interceptor Drainage Project with bids led by Conco General Engineering Contractors at 114 596. Construction could start in January funded by local flood control taxes and revenue sharing money. A three member committee will control Mural Room use, keeping it a museum and meeting space. the court accepts the plan while avoiding calendar control.
