Governor Brown said state legislators are more eager to pass property tax relief as voters may cut taxes further. He noted Jarvis-Gann backers’ ballot success has accelerated momentum for tax reductions and predicted passage within 100 days after the legislature reconvenes.
The California League of Conservation Voters released an environmental report card for the 1977 Legislature. It graded lawmakers on 28 issues spanning energy water wildlife land use pollution and related environmental topics with little progress cited.
In Seattle police aided by a court order the Rhodes family was forced from their $50 000 home after son and police Sgt TJ Rhodes Jr obtained ownership papers. The elder Rhodes tearfully recalled months of payments and a strained family split while the son remained unresponsive to questions. The parents received only 30 days extra to stay.
