Fourteen Hostages Escape From Hijacked Dutch Train
In Beilen Netherlands fourteen of about seventy five passengers escaped a hijacked train at dusk after leaping from the second car and fleeing across fields. The hostage takers now number about seven and had earlier killed the original engineer and possibly another captive. Police say two remaining hostages stayed aboard while two others in the second car refused to risk escape.

Valley adds deputy to boosted Lompoc Substation
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announces John Baker aged 28 will join the Lompoc Valley Substation as the tenth sworn deputy. Baker, formerly with Downey Police for five years, will work the afternoon shift, increasing staffing to three deputies in Mission Hills and Vandenberg Village. The substation had been reduced to eight and then restored to nine this year.
