Baker vows GOP backing for Carter tax cut plan

Senate Republican Leader Howard Baker pledged solid GOP support for President Carter's proposed substantial tax cut next year. Carter and aides said the plan would total 20 to 22 billion dollars, two thirds to individuals and one third to businesses, while major tax reform may wait until 1979. Haldeman to get week off for Christmas furlough

Election law changes bring good, bad news for Lompoc

City will hand count six of nine precincts amid new law requiring manual counting of at least one percent of votes, but overall cost unchanged. City Clerk Wilma Thomas notes the manual count aims to verify electronic tallies and expects a semi official result on election night March 7. She estimates tallying six precincts will take one day by four workers, costing about 108 dollars, offsetting savings from reduced precinct staff.
