Divorce breaks new ground in modern Italian history
Parliament in Rome passed a divorce bill by 319 to 286 after an eight day debate and 18 hours of voting. Once signed by President Saragat and published, divorce becomes law making Italy the first time since 1815 to legalize divorce. The bill allows divorces for long imprisonments sex crimes separations of seven years or more and foreign marriages with abroad annulments.
