Negotiators Agree to Teacher Pact in Lompoc Vote

Teachers in Lompoc will vote Wednesday on a four percent salary raise plus 325 dollars more for health and welfare benefits under a new collective bargaining agreement. The pact ends June 30, 1977, and bans work stoppages during its term.

Motorcycle crash victim dies in Lompoc

James B. Gateley, 38, of 206-B North Rd., died at 11 48 p m after being treated at Marian Hospital for injuries from a crash at Floradale and Central avenues. His son James J. Gateley, 9, suffered a sprained ankle in the accident. Inge Mea, 43, of Buellton, jailed on suspicion of felony drunken driving after a crash on Highway 246 at Thumbelina Drive. Mea released to police custody. Anthony Sabatino Williams, 26, jailed on suspicion of felony drunken driving after a head on collision on Highway 1 near Burton Mesa. passenger Larri Dison treated for minor injuries.

Iranian police hunt killers of three American engineers

Police in Tehran seek the assassins of William Cottrell Robert Krongard and Donald Smith who were killed while being driven to work. A cyclist provided a description of the getaway Paykan sedan and a red Volkswagen used at the scene. The victims were employed on top secret Air Force work with Rockwell International.

Tax cuts extended through 1977 under conference agreement

Congressional tax writers agree to extend all current individual income tax cuts through 1977 with some set to become permanent. The earned income credit remains part of the package, with credits beginning at 10 percent of the first 4000 earned and phasing out as income rises to 8000. If law is enacted, withholding remains unchanged. without it, withholdings could rise by as much as six dollars per week.

FEC approves League program for debates

The FEC unanimously allowed the League of Women Voters to sponsor presidential debates. Costs of about 150000 dollars would not count as contributions or expenditures under the 1971 act. Carter and Ford had tentatively agreed on three 75 minute debates in late September.

North Korean gunboats seize South Korean fishing boat

North Korean patrol ships fired on and captured a 17.4 ton South Korean fishing vessel with 23 crewmen after it strayed into North Korean waters in the Sea of Korea near Kosung. North Korea detained the vessel and began an investigation as tensions remain high on the Korean peninsula.
