Legislature sends salary bill for Santa Barbara executive officer
SB 1564 by Senator Omer L. Rains moves to place the Santa Barbara Superior Court executive officer salary under the Board of Supervisors. The bill, approved by the Assembly and Senate, goes to the Governor for signature with justification that the Board sets the county tax rate and directly answers to voters for fiscal action.

Lompoc Public Library reports 4991 books read by 392 children in the Heritage '76 Summer Vacation Reading Club. The 10 week program began June 14 and ended with a Happy Birthday America party and awards. Phase goals ranged from 15 to 50 books, with 277 readers logging at least one book and 52 finishing the full 50 book challenge.
