County Officials Debate Tax Levy Impact of Wage Freeze
Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson and Auditor Controller A. T. Eaves Jr. said the 90 day wage freeze through November will not lessen a looming 70 cent or more county tax increase for 1971 72. County Counsel George Kading weighs whether last June 1 salary readjustment ordinance is affected by the freeze with a ruling expected next week. The budget includes 650000 for salary readjustments despite a three month delay in pay raises and a carryover fund may emerge next year, while merit increases cannot be approved during the freeze.
