Senate committee pushes plan to revamp California Justice Courts
In Sacramento a Senate Judiciary Committee approved AB2260 as a stopgap measure to overhaul the Justice Court system at an annual cost of 1.6 million dollars. The bill adds 22 circuit Justice Court judges and makes 30 part time lawyer judges full time, with a 30 thousand dollar annual salary each. The measure now goes to the Finance Committee.

A Scripps Institute of Oceanography technician Robert E. Bower and two others were indicted for using institute sample crates to smuggle about 4.5 million dollars worth of hashish from Afghanistan. Half a ton were seized Tuesday in Seattle in a warehouse linked to the University of Washington. The operation involved crates built for oceanographic work and shipments from Africa to Baltimore by freighter.
