Marine to Swim Mississippi River for Bicentennial
UPI reports Marine Capt. Alan Jones plans a top-to-bottom Mississippi swim in 1976 to celebrate the nation's 200th birthday. He recently logged a 100 mile Portland to The Dalles swim in 35 hours and targets a sub-50 day crossing from Minneapolis to New Orleans, following early training on the Snake and Columbia rivers. He emphasizes fitness, orienteering skills, and public awareness of physical training.
