An army near 10,000 firefighters battled the worst Western forest fires in decades across eight states and Canada. About 11 of 35 major blazes remained out of control, burning 110000 acres and causing over 60 million dollars in damage. Authorities stated the situation was improving as air fleets, National Guard support, and experimental tactics were deployed against fires from California to Montana.
