Leary names helpers in 1970 escape to avoid further prosecutions

Timothy Leary told authorities the names of a San Francisco attorney and Weatherman members who helped him flee San Luis Obispo Prison in September 1970. He was moved to Seattle Chicago Paris and Algiers as part of an alleged plan to gain parole. The San Francisco Examiner reported the disclosure in a copyrighted piece.

A UPI report says a C-141 cargo plane with seven crew members departed Charleston AFB for La Paz Bolivia and vanished after refueling in the Canal Zone. The aircraft carried 16 tons of cargo and was due to land at noon EDT Sunday. The crew listed as from Charleston included Capt James R Tant pilot 1st Lt Charles T Moorefield first copilot 2nd Lt Dale W Lake second copilot Capt Paul N Burroughs navigator T Sgt Carl H Church T Sgt Thomas H Kuechman and M Sgt Joseph M Gorin.
