Hay growers fret as Doreen tail end delivers drizzle
Tropical storm Doreen's tail end brought light showers to the Santa Ynez Valley on a overcast Wednesday. Hay growers fear August rainfall could ruin alfalfa and Sudan grass, with prices already down to 60 to 80 dollars a ton and thousands of acres harvested and baled awaiting protection. Previous year losses in August and September hit tomatoes and grapes hard across the region.

Buellton CHP Reports July Traffic Toll Up From 1976
Lt. R A Dzamba of the Buellton area reports July traffic in his patrol zone shows more fatalities and injuries than July 1976. Two people died and 26 were injured in July, with alcohol related crashes rising. Seven month totals include nine fatals and 198 injuries, with drunk driving at fault doubling from 19 to 38.
