California approves $134 million one time school aid boost

Interest rates raised for California veteran loans

The California Veterans Board voted 5-2 in Eureka to raise Calvet loan rates from 3 3/4 percent to 4 1/4 percent, effective December. About 125,000 loans are affected. 2,400 will pay 6 1/4 percent. The change lengthens terms but does not raise monthly payments for most holders.

Nixon and Lodge may meet next week at San Clemente

Medín a man arrested for attempted murder in domestic dispute

Emilio Medina, 23, was booked in Lompoc Jail on attempted murder charges following a domestic quarrel that left Antonio Hernandez, 22, with a broken wrist. Medina posted bail of 3125 dollars and was taken into custody after the fight moved from 40A N St to 327 N J St. Hernandez was treated at Lompoc Hospital for a broken wrist and a chin cut before release. Further details were being compiled.

Union Oil sets new date to repair blocked line

Union Oil expects to complete a repaired beach water line at Ocean Park by August 29 after assembling 600 feet of new pipe on Surf Beach. Work will start early August 28 and proceed with the final placing on the 29th, weather permitting.
