Hurricanes Celeste and Diana Near Hawaii

Hurricanes Celeste and Diana moved slowly across the central Pacific with 110 mph winds. Celeste was 600 miles southeast of Hawaii, nearly due west at 12 knots. Dianna trailed about 1000 miles behind with similar winds. A Hickam Field plane crossed Celeste’s eye to gauge speed and course. If Celeste follows its present path it will miss Hawaii by about 400 miles and could threaten Johnston Island if it continues toward the west.
