Cuyama Valley district election set and workshops planned
The Board of Supervisors approved an election on September 3 to form a 450000 acre Cuyama Valley Soil Conservation District spanning San Luis Obispo Kern and most of Santa Barbara counties. About 500 ballots will be printed. A five member board would run the district if approved. Also announced are management workshops in Santa Maria with NMA Gold Knight award to Charles F E Carnahan and talks by Daniel P Casey and R S Briggs. Statewide highway users tax apportionment totals include Santa Barbara County and Lompoc figures.

County Panel Approves Flood Hazard Overlay Plan
The Board of Supervisors will adopt a zoning ordinance amendment for flood hazard overlay rights of way in unincorporated areas to ban encroachments. Effective 30 days after action, a public hearing was set for Aug 24 to apply the rules to Montecito zoning ordinance 453. A defect in the Monday notice delayed action. flood control engineer said state policy requires regulation of designated floodways for eligibility in state reimbursement. The overlay prohibits structures and grading in designated floodways without a special permit.
