Sheriff reports show more than 2000 dollars in damage at Cabrillo High School from break ins Monday afternoon to yesterday morning. Vandals entered via window and door, damaged the cafeteria and gym, drenched the floor with a hose, and scattered chalk dust. No arrests yet. Lompoc High also suffered five broken windows with 300 dollar replacement cost.
Mary Louise Smith warned of differences within the party as the Republican National Committee met in Kansas City to map a unified path for the fall campaign. The session faced Buckley’s potential entry, Ford and Reagan tensions, and a conservative platform push while deciding to disband and reconstitute next week.
Senator Jesse Helms, speaking for Reagan supporters, warns the Republican Party must stick to conservative ideals or it will wither and blow away. He cites 22 proposed conservative planks, including anti abortion and anti busing measures, and says polls show Americans call themselves conservatives.

California Senate Natural Resources Committee defeats two alternative coastal protection measures. Only SB1277 advances, backed by Gov Brown and environmentalists. Assembly considers AB400 funding for land purchases and coast hostels, while AB3876 is rejected 2-6, leaving coastal reform effort stalled near year end.
In a three hour meeting the Lompoc seniors approved dissolving the current club and launching a new non profit with the same name. The plan calls for nine interim directors to serve from Jan 15 1977, with incorporation papers and bylaws to be filed and city assistance requested. The group seeks tax exemptions, potential grants, and a facility takeover funded by a lease arrangement and staff costs, while dues rise to five dollars yearly.
