Arkansas rainmaker ends rainmaking era in dry times
Homer Berry, 68, a former Air Force major known as the Arkansas rainmaker, says he has folded up his umbrella after 28 years of attempting weather control. He moved from field stints to seeking a commercial contract, but has had only one recent inquiry and plans to relocate to Arizona. Berry recalls a past $10,000 Texas contract that fell short, and notes cautions from the Texas Water Development Board about weather modification without a permit. He previously proposed “air-conditioning the city” by scheduling rain every 48 hours after business hours to cool downtown streets.
