Lompoc Valley Kennel Club Plans First All Breed Show

The Lompoc Valley Kennel Club aims to sponsor its first licensed all breed shows and obedience trials in Ryan Park on September 7. The event marks nine years of effort to obtain AKC licensure with plans by Don Ostlund Ruth Steinbeck Tom Steinbeck and others.

Catholic Social Services Moves Office Location

Catholic Social Services moved from Community Services House on East Ocean Avenue to 217 West Olive Avenue. Office hours run Mondays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Don Wick offers marriage family and budget counseling. Santa Maria office at 607 West Main Street operates Tuesday to Friday. Legion Auxiliary Unit 211 installs officers in Lompoc area

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 211 held its officer installation at the Veterans Memorial Building after a Lompoc style beef barbecue. Rosemary McIntosh was named president with a full slate including Ethel Brown as 1st vice president and Louise Anderson as secretary while Mary Nasato and others filled posts. The Post followed with its own officer installation and announced an officers workshop in Arroyo Grande on August 4 and regular meetings to resume August 6.

YMCA Chicken Barbecue Set By Indian Guides Aug 25

The second annual YMCA Indian Guide and Indian Maiden barbecue will be at Ryan Park on August 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dinner includes half chicken beans salad bread and drink for 2.25 adults 2 seniors and 1.25 children under 12. Proceeds go to a building fund to expand youth and family programs. Tickets from local merchants the Y office or any Indian guide or maiden.

An open house celebrated the marriage of John Barber and Nina Strickland Barber in Reno Nevada in June. Guests totaling about three hundred attended at 439 South J Street hosted by Mr and Mrs Joseph Mangino with assistance from June Fish Florence Smith and Norma Vermillion.

Dowd Family Grows With Korean Adoptees At Vandenberg AFB

Luke and Jonathan Dowd join Major Anthony Dowd and Ann at Vandenberg AFB after being abandoned in Taejon Korea last December. The brothers aged 2 and 4 were in an orphanage seven months before adoption. They arrived in San Francisco June 21 to meet their new family as Brian 11 Patti 10 and Matthew 5 welcomed them. The Dowds completed a home study with California’s health department and Holt Adoption Agency. The boys learn English with the help of their new siblings and are already adjusting to American life, their first words being fire engine and helicopter.
