Illinois wrestles with electric chair problem

CHICAGO The Cook County jail will transfer its electric chair to Stateville Penitentiary after the county board ordered Sheriff Joseph I. Woods to move the device. Stateville inmates 14 on death row plus other parties had sought the chair though it has not worked. The last execution occurred August 24, 1964 for a 1956 murder.

Lompoc Police Department Adopts POST Recommendations

City Administrator Gene Wahlers announced that several POST survey recommendations are now in use by the Lompoc Police Department. Implementations include a new watch rotation, traffic enforcement plan, narcotics officer training, standardized citation forms, and enhanced record keeping with focus on manpower development and pay raises beginning July 1.

Mrs Irene Kennedy Dies at 74 in Lompoc

Irene Kennedy a lifelong Lompoc resident died early yesterday morning at Lompoc District Hospital at age 74. Rosary tonight at 7 30 at McPeek Family Mortuary. Requiem mass tomorrow at 8 at La Purisima Church officiated by Father John Fitzgerald. Burial at Lom poc Evergreen Cemetery. Survived by daughter Helen Cohoon of Sacramento son Charles Kennedy of San Luis Obispo and four grandchildren.

Couple arrested after weekend hit and run in San Jose

A man identified as Edward Galvan and a woman named Helen Zamilpa were arrested for hit and run and suspected drunken driving after their car struck 10 parked cars a tree and a house in San Jose. Police said they took turns driving during the incident.
