About 100 firefighters watched dying embers as the Cachuma blaze in Los Padres National Forest charred 2000 acres. Officials said the fire was essentially out with containment achieved last night and mop up ongoing near Santa Barbara.
The Lompoc City Council unanimously ratified joining the Northern California Power Agency project to build a 110 MW steam powered plant near Sonoma. The plant aims for 1981 completion with a 30 to 35 million dollar cost and a 3.28 percent city share, supplying about 25 percent of Lompoc’s needs.
Lompoc City Council approved funding outline for the Civic Center cost sharing about 890000 from city accounts. The plan splits 450000 from the Utility Fund, 240000 from the Civic Center Fund, and 200000 from the General Fund, with further breakdowns by utility subfunds and over two fiscal years.
