The Cold Spring Canyon Bridge on San Marcos Pass Road Highway 154 amid Santa Ynez Valley is celebrated as one of America's most beautiful long span bridges. It won the 1965 American Institute of Steel Construction prize, notable for its arc welded steel design and 28 foot roadway between barriers.

Bridge opens with balanced arch flow through Santa Ynez
The San Marcos Route bridge in Santa Ynez Valley opened Feb 4 1964 with a centerline balance and spherical ball joints. Its seven miles of approach roads and removal of 88 curves improved access to Santa Barbara and drew travelers to Solvang Lake Cachuma and surrounding mountains. An average 5900 vehicles per day use the San Marcos and Cold Spring Bridge regions during peak periods.

Feasibility study ordered on Buellton Parkway and Solvang park maintenance
The Board of Supervisors directed a feasibility study on transferring maintenance of the Buellton Parkway and a Solvang park to local bodies. Supervisor Beattie urged county responsibility to end dust and decline. Slater favored local control to cut costs and burden. Park Director Pahos to report on feasibility of transfer to the Buellton Community Services District and Solvang Municipal Improvement District.

Restrictions on well use to be aired at BCSD meet
