Generic drugs ease costs as substitution bill expands use
Californians can request generic substitutes for more pricey brand names after AB 193, widening pharmacist power to swap generics unless doctors specify no substitution. FTC to probe brand name drug price practices
The FTC said it will investigate whether consumers pay too much for brand name drugs when doctors prescribe branded products instead of generics. It may question manufacturers distributors and medical professionals to assess if pharmacists could select cheaper sources and whether doctors should delegate more pricing authority to pharmacists.

Tax Credit Proposed For Older Homeowners
Congressman Lagomarsino introduced a bill granting seniors over sixty five with incomes at or below five thousand dollars a 50 percent credit on property taxes. Renters would receive a similar grant equal to half their share of rent, phased down as income rises, and the credit would supplement existing deductions. The plan ties the credit to net income with a two percent reduction for each thousand dollars of income above five thousand.
