Three Southland brush fires burn out of control
Winds and high heat fed three major brush fires in the south, with one blaze scorching 2000 acres and damaging a Riverside nudist colony. Fire crews reported 70 percent containment at Reche Canyon, as 280 firefighters, five air tankers, and 33 trucks and bulldozers pushed lines on the south and east.

School chiefs denounce cuts in federal aid under P L 874
Nation wide superintendents meeting in Omaha condemned reduced federal funding for Public Law 874 and related aid. Glen Wegner of Lompoc said Lompoc Unified has lost hundreds of thousands as districts face budget gaps and rising education costs. Con-Trib Club Supports Arthritis Foundation in SB County
The Santa Barbara County Branch of the Arthritis Foundation announced renewed financial aid from the Con-Trib Club. Comprised of General Dynamics Convair employees at Vandenberg AFB the group marks its third consecutive year of contributions. A school board meeting will discuss the foundation, a budget hearing for 1970-71 with expenditures over 10.6 million, and pending federal funding clarifications.
