Lompoc Babe Ruth Team Leaves for Western Regionals

Lompoc 14-15 year old All-Stars head to Salt Lake City for the Western Regional tournament at Derks Field. They face Mexico Saturday at 2:30 pm, with games aired live on KNEZ. The winner advances to the Babe Ruth World Series in New Hampshire. Teams from Nevada Utah Salt Lake Arizona Hawaii and Southern California compete in the eight-team double elimination event.

Padres draw interest from Japanese buyers but no deal

San Diego Padres president Buzzie Bavasi said he met with a group of Japanese businessmen who expressed interest in buying the club but nothing materialized. PGA eyes 15 championship golf events with big purses

The PGA proposed a reform to the pro tour featuring 15 championship tournaments each with at least 250000 dollars in prize money. The plan would require top players to compete and could not start before 1975. Commissioner Joe Dey noted favorable early reactions and a survey of players and sponsors planned before November board talks.

Riggs King Set for 100000 Prize Match at Houston Dome

Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King will meet September 20 at the Houston Astrodome in a five set winner take all tennis match for 100000. The event will air nationally between 8 and 10 p.m. EDT. King, Wimbledon champion, had previously rejected Riggs challenges while Margaret Court defeated the 55 year old former Wimbledon champion 6 2 6 1 on May 13.
