Esposito Named NHL MVP in Hart Trophy Honor

Phil Esposito of the Boston Bruins won the Hart Trophy for the 1968-69 season as the league's most outstanding player. The 41 year old drives a 1955 black Chevrolet 327 cubic inch engine rated up to 440 horsepower and serves on the speedway rules committee. He has raced at Bakersfield Saugus and Ascot, finished second to Jim Insolo at Ascot this spring, and hopes to also race at Saugus Bakersfield and Riverside next year.

Hancock Bulldogs Pace at Northern California Relays

Hancock freshman athletes Bob Phelps and Tom Learned helped the team finish second at the Northern California Relays in Cupertino. Phelps tied for second in high jump at 6-4 and was fourth in the 120 yard hurdles. Learned was fourth in pole vault at 13-0. Hancock won the distance medley relay in 10:22.6 and placed third in sprint medley and two mile relays as the Bulldogs totaled 53 points, while Porterville won with 63.
